The Monroeville Chess Club is a scholastic based 501 (c) (3) not-for-profit corporation and an affiliated of the U.S. Chess Federation. Weekly, our members participate in many different chess activities. The Club is committed to developing good thinkers through the understanding of chess strategies and tactics. These skills carry over into the game of life. The Club elects officers yearly and assigns club coordinator responsibilities to other members. Monthly the officers and coordinators hold meetings to update the membership of current activities and vote on any club decisions required. Annually, the Club takes a trip which combines chess playing and educational sightseeing. The Club runs five (5) chess tournaments each year. The Club maintains a fun and enjoyable atmosphere of chess activity while members successfully develop other skills in accomplishing Club objectives and goals.

Chess has long been recognized throughout the world as a builder of strong intellects, but only recently has the United States begun to recognize chess's ability to improve the cognitive abilities, rational thinking and reasoning of even the least promising children. Chess brings out latent abilities that have not been reached by traditional educational means. It promotes logical thinking, instills a sense of self-confidence and self-worth, improves communication and pattern recognition skills. It develops the values of hard work, concentration, objectivity, and commitment.
